Mounties in northeastern Alberta say they used a helicopter to rescue a stranded trapper on the weekend. They say they got a report Sunday that the hunter's all-terrain vehicle overturned and became stuck.

Officers from the Boyle RCMP detachment helped a stranded hunter get to safety on the weekend. The man called police just before 1 p.m. on Sunday from a remote area near Agnes Lake – between Wandering River and Mariana Lake.

A 49-year-old Hinton man drowned after his kayak capsized in the Athabasca River over the weekend, Alberta Mounties said Tuesday. On Saturday before noon, Hinton RCMP and the Yellowhead Fire Department responded to a report of a man in medical distress after his kayak flipped over on the Athabasca River near Hinton.
