Twenty-three towns and cities from across Quebec are arguing Bill 96 is abusive and threatens their bilingual status.

A group of 23 bilingual municipalities asked a Quebec Superior Court judge on Monday to suspend several portions of the province's 2022 language reform, arguing that the application of the law will cause them serious and irreparable harm.

The 23 municipalities are: Baie d’Urfé, Beaconsfield, Blanc-Sablon, Bonne-Espérance, Chichester, Côte Saint-Luc, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Dorval, Havelock, Hope Town, Kazabazua, Kirkland, L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, Montréal-Ouest, Mulgrave-et-Derry, New Carlisle, Pointe-Claire, Senneville, Sheenboro, Shigawake, Stanbridge East, Wentworth and Westmount.
