TikTok's Chinese parent company ByteDance will train its next-gen AI model using Huawei's latest AI chips, keeping it all in China.

Previously, ByteDance’s AI projects used NVIDIA’s H20 AI chips, which were designed for the Chinese market and avoided the trade restrictions the US government placed in 2022. Chinese customers were only allowed to purchase select models of AI chips, which was an attempt to slow down Chinese technological advancement.

As the U.S. escalates export controls on China, TikTok’s owner is reportedly planning to use a homegrown chipmaker for an artificial intelligence model it’s developing.

Cerebras Systems Inc., a maker of chips and other tech infrastructure for artificial intelligence, filed for an initial public offering on Monday, as more startups look to make a name for themselves in a space occupied by tech juggernauts like Nvidia Corp.
