A goat joined in on half marathon and was rewarded with a medal after crossing the finish line and photos with runners.

Partway through Sunday’s T’Railway Trek half marathon in Conception Bay South, N.L., an eager 68-kilogram (150 pound) goat named Joshua broke free from his collar and joined the runners on the route.

Conception Bay South’s first T'Railway Trek Half Marathon had an unexpected runner, Joshua the goat. He spotted the runners going by his home and decided to join in and even received a medal, says Mayor Darrin Bent.

With the help of neighbors on Facebook, they were able to track down the 10-year-old goat a few miles away. Since he'd already run three miles of the half marathon, Taylor drove him close to the finish line where he finished out the race. Like every other runner, he got a medal.

In what could only be described as an unexpected greatest-of-all-time (GOAT) performance, a pet goat named Joshua from Conception Bay South, N.L., decided to take his running goals into his own hooves at Sunday’s T’Railway Trek Half Marathon—uninvited, of course.

He may not have logged the fastest time or even gone the full distance, but residents of a Newfoundland town agree the goat who unexpectedly joined the local weekend half marathon was the event's undisputed champion.

A Newfoundland pet goat managed to escape his collar, encountering marathon runners who he joined for about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) before being caught by his owners
