Winnipeggers dressed in orange are gathering to remember Canada's dark history of residential schools. The fourth annual Orange Shirt Day healing walk, held by Wa-Say Healing Centre, left The Forks at 11 a.m. and will head to the RBC Convention Centre, where a powwow is scheduled for 1 p.m.

With events happening across Canada for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, tens of thousands gathered in Winnipeg for Orange Shirt Day. The day held even greater meaning this year, as for the first time in Manitoba,

The Orange Shirt Story is the true story of Phyllis Webstad, who was only six years old in 1973 when she was taken from her home to attend St. Joseph Mission Residential School in B.C. When she arrived at school, Webstad was stripped of all of her possessions, including a brand new orange shirt — never to be seen again.
